Which rakats are obligatory
O Allah! Thee alone do we serve and to Thee alone do we pray and make obeisance and to Thee we flee and we are quick and we hope for Thy mercy and we fear Thy chastisement, for surely Thy chastisement overtakes the unbelievers. These Prayers are called Sunnat Prayers. Offering Sunnat Prayers is considered to be necessary by all jurists. The wilful neglect of Sunnat Prayers is censurable in the sight of Allah.
Sunnat Prayers are:. These are called Nawafil Prayers or Nafl. These are optional Prayers. Nawafil Prayers are as follows:. Isha Prayer. Some people insist very emphatically upon the offering of 4 rakats optional sunnat before the isha prayer but during our entire research we could not find a single proof, any practice or order from the Prophet Muhammad S.
Some people offer 2 rakats nafl after the witr prayer. However, there is an authentic Hadith which states that the witr prayer should be offered after all the nafl which a person wishes to pray have been offered. You Might Also Like. Show Comments Hide Comments. No comments.

With regards to nafl the ones you sit down to pray ; i don't offer these anymore. Question: Can I just pray the obligatory prayers only and skip the non-obligatory prayers.
Answer: Praise be to Allaah. Observing the naafil supererogatory prayers and offering them regularly is one of the greatest means of earning the love of Allaah and it brings Paradise and divine mercy. My servant draws not near to Me with anything more loved by Me than the religious duties I have enjoined upon him, and My servant continues to draw near to Me with supererogatory works so that I shall love him.
When I love him I am his hearing with which he hears, his seeing with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes and his foot with which he walks. Were he to ask [something] of Me, I would surely give it to him, and were he to ask Me for refuge, I would surely grant him it. I do not hesitate about anything as much as I hesitate about [seizing] the soul of My faithful servant: he hates death and I hate hurting him.
Such a person will undoubtedly be successful, even though his persisting in not offering Sunnah prayers is something blameworthy for which his testimony is to be rejected. But he is not sinning thereby, rather he will be successful and will attain salvation.
And Allaah knows best. If it is sound then he will have succeeded but if it is not sound then he will be lost and doomed. Then all his deeds will be dealt with in like manner. Sunnah of the 'Asr Prayer It can be performed with one Taslim also. Both forms are correct and permissible. Some scholars are of the opinion that the former method is better. Its importance is however evident from the fact that the Prophet PBUH prayed for mercy on those who performed these Sunnah.
Last edited by vpb; at AM. He PBUH used to perform both regularly. I informed him again but he did not came out immediately to lead As-Salat. When he came out, he led As-Salat.
